Chainsaw Carved 48” Standing Black Bear with Reversible Sign
A tall standing black bear holding a reversible sign, measuring about 48 inches high, 14 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. The larger size gives it a strong, welcoming presence—easy to notice from across a room or walkway. Sign choices include “Welcome/Go Away,” “Welcome/Wipe Yer Paws,” “Welcome/Bear Feet Only,” or a custom message if you prefer something personal.
Carved from heart-free Western Red Cedar or Giant Sequoia Redwood reclaimed from local tree work. Heart-free stock avoids the dense center of the tree where deeper cracking usually starts, keeping a larger carving like this more stable over time. The bear is painted black before sealing and finished with spar urethane so it can be displayed indoors or outdoors.
Made in Oregon.
Please note that due to the handmade nature of this product, there may be slight variations in size, shape, and color from the images shown. Most you won’t notice, as we work hard to make them match the photo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I leave my bear outside?
Yes. Our carvings are finished with an exterior-rated finish, typically spar urethane or Cabot Australian Timber Oil. The product description will tell you which finish was used on your specific carving.
Like any outdoor wood furniture or deck, the finish will eventually need to be refreshed. Direct sunlight and constant exposure to the weather will cause the finish to wear faster. If your carving is kept indoors or in a covered area, it may go many years without needing to be refinished or may never need refinishing at all.
Where do you get your wood?
We responsibly source logs from trees that have fallen or need to be removed for safety or other practical reasons.
Much of our Redwood comes from the Willamette Valley in Oregon, where Giant Sequoia Redwoods were planted around homes and properties many years ago. These trees can grow extremely large, and occasionally they need to be removed when they become hazardous or outgrow their location. We work with local homeowners and tree professionals to give this wood a second life instead of letting it go to waste.
Will my carving crack?
Some cracking, also called checking, is completely normal with solid wood carvings. Logs naturally expand and contract as moisture levels change, which can cause cracks to open and close over time.
We use heart-free wood, meaning we remove the center of the log to help prevent the large cracks commonly seen in solid-log carvings. Small or hairline cracks may still appear over time.
This does not normally affect the strength of the carving and is part of the natural character of a solid wood product. Every piece of wood behaves a little differently.
Will my bear look exactly like the pictures?
If the product is listed as an Exact Bear, the carving pictured is the exact one you will receive.
For products where we have multiple similar carvings available, there may be small differences in the wood grain, color, shape, and carving details. Each bear is individually carved, and no two pieces of wood are exactly alike.
Are the bears made from real wood?
Yes. Our carvings are made from solid wood — not molded, cast, or made from composite material.
Because they are made from real logs, natural grain, knots, color variations, and checking are all normal and help make every carving unique.
Are your bears handmade?
Yes. Our bears are individually finished by hand. They are not mass-produced or molded decorations, so small differences from one carving to another are expected.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. Shipping is free within the lower 48 United States unless otherwise stated on the product page.
How are the larger bears shipped?
Large carvings are carefully packed and shipped in heavy-duty boxes with protective packaging around the carving.
Some removable accessories, such as lanterns or signs, may be packed separately inside the box to help protect them during shipping.
What happens if my carving is damaged during shipping?
If your order arrives damaged, contact us as soon as possible and send us photos of the carving, packaging, and shipping box.
We'll work with you to get the issue taken care of.
Can I request a custom carving?
Availability for custom work varies throughout the year. If you have something specific in mind, contact us with the size, style, and any other details you're looking for, and we'll let you know what's possible.
Do you ship outside the United States?
We may be able to ship to select international locations. Contact us before ordering, and we can check shipping options and costs for your location.
