This 11-inch brown welcome bear includes a reversible sign and is carved from Giant Sequoia Redwood. Sign options: Welcome/Go Away, Welcome/Wipe Yer Paws, Welcome/Bear Feet Only, or a custom option if you want something personalized. Size is roughly 11x8x6 inches. Burned-in accents give the brown bear its darker features.

I carve these from heart-free redwood that’s urban sourced and responsibly harvested. Redwood holds up extremely well outdoors and is naturally rot-resistant, which helps the carving last longer near entryways or porches. Heart-free wood helps avoid deeper cracking. Finished with 3 coats of oil-based spar urethane for both indoor and outdoor use.

Made in Oregon.

Please expect small differences in size, shape, and color since each carving is handmade. Most will match the example photo closely.

Care Guide

Indoor Care: It's sufficient to clean your carving by dusting it as needed. Rest assured that water won't cause any damage to it.

Outdoor Care: When it's time to refinish your carving, start by cleaning any dirt or debris off the surface. Then, cover the eyes with masking tape and apply 1-2 additional coats of oil-based spar urethane to protect the wood from the elements. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions when applying the spar urethane.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Did you make this yourself?
A: Yes, we take pride in making our products ourselves in the USA!

Q: What kind of finish do you use?
A: We use 4 coats of satin oil-based Spar Urethane that is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Q: Can I leave it outside?
A: Yes, you can! Our 4 coats of Spar Urethane provide protection from weather. However, like any outdoor furniture, it will require some maintenance, especially if exposed to a lot of sunlight. If you notice the sculpture losing its shine, you can cover the eyes with masking tape and apply 1-2 more coats of Spar Urethane.

Q: How long have you been doing this?
A: We have been creating these sculptures since the early 70s. It's a family tradition that we're proud to continue.

Q: Will it crack?
A: We do our best to prevent major cracks, such as checking, which occurs when the sapwood (outer layer) shrinks around the heartwood (center) during the drying process. To avoid this, we rip the log into pieces and attempt to remove the heartwood. While smaller cracks may still occur, we strive to remove the heartwood from 99% of our products. If you receive a product with heartwood, don't worry, it's natural and won't affect its structural integrity.

Q: What tools do you use to carve your sculptures?
A: We use a variety of tools, including chainsaws, sanders, grinders, stones, routers, and more.

Q: Is the black burnt or painted?
A: Most of our sculptures are burnt at some point, which helps treat the wood and give it a smoother feel. The main parts of the carving are then painted, while features such as ears, nose, and paws are burnt on for added texture and detail.
